@katie Really? Selfish? That’s a negative outlook and totally unnecessary. Hope this person was happy with their choice and died doing what they wanted!

When you realize your house and all your belongings you’ve worked so hard for are about to be gone, that’s your home, your life. I honestly don’t blame someone for not wanting to leave. This whole fire situation is so devasting. Praying for all those suffering. ❤️

This is heart breaking news and you will hear about many fatalities in disasters ..ie..Hurricane Katrina..etc…where older people’s lives are all they have left in life…my prayers go out to this person’s family and all others who were affected by the Butte fire.

Sorry, but that was a very rude comment @katie! How dare you! You have no idea the circumstances that made that individual not leave. Did you even consider that maybe there was something that HINDERED them being able to leave? The only selfish thing about it was your comment!

I wonder if it was the girl with her dog?! I seen post yesterday on Facebook about a girl and her dog missing in the same area! Too sad

The person might not have “refused” to leave. I don’t think they should be reporting this unless they know for sure. Many homes in this area are tucked away and could have been missed in door to door evacuations. My parents were. They live in this area and did not know they were supposed to evacuate. The power was out in this area so they did not have tv, internet, phone. No cell phone service. The fire moved very fast. They were able to see fire was close and left just in time.
This is still tragic no matter what. Thoughts and prayers to everyone.

My 92 year old mother lives very close to his place and if she hadn’t had a hard wired phone that didn’t depend on electricity, I would not have been able to contact her to let her know it was time to go. A necessity for winter electricity outings etc. Only a few dollars for a cheap plug in phone….NOT a portable with a base that uses electricity.

So sorry for this tragedy. I am in Illinois and watching my home state burn up. It breaks my heart. My condolences to the family of this victim.

I know of several family’s from all over this fire that were never told to evacuate. And had to drive thru fire to escape their was more animal evacthan people. I believe the cause in some cases this was no news coverage no radio broadcasts. Most were unaware their was a fire

Our home is under evacuation alert and I will do so when and if the time comes. My roommate says they will stay and fight for their home. It’s all they have. They do not expect anyone to risk their life to save them if they stay. In respond to many people not being told to leave, I turned on the scanner as soon as I found out there was a fire. All day and thru the night the police department was evacuating house by house. Says they did so, they called dispatch and gave house addresses and there were a few that had refused to leave. I also heard several officers tell dispatch that they were going back to do a quick check to make sure that people had not been missed and to check houses where there was no answer which were quite a few. I am not saying that they did not miss anyone I am simply telling what I heard. It is heart breaking what happened to this person but if they refused to leave…I respect the fact they fought for what was theirs. My prayers to the family and all those who were and are being affected by this fire. My gratitude to the firefighters, police department and anyone who has helped in any way. I have noticed how many businesses around the area have opened their parking lots for campers. Others have donated food, dog food, places for people to keep their large animals and so much more. Thank you all very much.
