Calaveras County to Provide Sand Bags and Sand for Flood Protection During Severe Storms

San Andreas… With the upcoming winter season bringing the threat of heavy rain, the Calaveras County Department of Public Works will continue to provide sand and sandbags to the public and free of charge when severe storms present significant and extensive flooding potential that could be disastrous to life and property.

When potential large storm events threaten Calaveras County residents, Public Works will release information in advance of the storm with targeted messaging to inform the public of sand bag availability. In the past, Public Works has worked to stock locations throughout the county, including the communities of Arnold, Copperopolis, Glencoe, Jenny Lind, Valley Springs, Mountain Ranch, Murphys, San Andreas, and West Point. Members of the public are asked to bring their personal shovel and limit the number of sandbags to 10 per resident to ensure adequate supply.

During most typical storm events, private property owners may purchase sand and sandbags as necessary to protect their private property. These materials are readily available for purchase at private retail locations throughout Calaveras County.
