Ongoing COVID-19 Surge in Amador

Amador County, CA…Amador County Public Health reports 139 more cases of COVID-19 and 3 additional deaths since last Tuesday’s update, bringing the total laboratory confirmed case count to 2,485. The community members who passed were 2 males, one in their 40s, another in his 60s, and 1 female in her 70s. The current cases include 69 males and 70 females; 28 children under the age of 18 years, 70 aged 18-49, 23 aged 50-64, 18 age 65 and above; 38 residing in Ione, 51 in Jackson, 11 living in Plymouth/surrounding areas, 16 in Pine Grove, 10 residing in Pioneer, 11 in Sutter Creek/Amador City, and 2 residing in Volcano. 1,251 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in 2021 to date. Of the new cases this week, 22 were fully-vaccinated. The surge of COVID-19 cases and hospital and intensive care unit (ICU) admissions continues to impact our local hospital. Nine Amador residents are currently hospitalized locally with COVID-19, in addition to 4 residents from other counties. Of those hospitalized, none were fully-vaccinated. Due to the increased transmission rate of the Delta variant of COVID-19, masks are recommended for all regardless of vaccination status when indoors in public or outdoors in crowds. Under the State Health Officer Order, masks are required indoors in public areas for those who are not vaccinated.

Everyone exhibiting symptoms, even fully vaccinated individuals, should isolate and be tested. No-cost COVID-19 testing is available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, except for holidays, from 7 am to 7 pm. Register for testing at the lhi.care website or by calling 1-888-634-1123. Appointment registration is recommended as those pre-registered are prioritized. Masks are required at the testing site located at the rear of the Health and Human Services building. The test site will be closed in observance of the Labor Day holiday on September 6, 2021. A one-time make-up test day for the Labor Day closure will be offered on Friday, September 10, 2021 from 7 am to 7 pm.
On Thursday, August 26th, a vaccine pop-up clinic will be offered at Ione Pharmacy, located at 307 Preston Avenue from 9 am to 12 pm. On Friday, August 27th, a clinic will be held at Pokerville Market, 18170 Highway 49 in Plymouth from 9 am to 12 pm. Next week, on Tuesday, August 31st, a clinic will be held at The Oaks, located at 1607 Jackson Valley Road in Ione from 10 am to 12 pm. Both the Pfizer vaccine and the Johnson and Johnson (single-dose) vaccine are offered at each pop-up site. No appointment is necessary. Public Health also offers vaccines by appointment and to homebound individuals. Appointments may be scheduled by calling (209) 223-6407. COVID-19 vaccine is also available at local pharmacies. Over 36,700 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to Amador residents to date. 67.2% of eligible Amador County residents, age 12 and over, have had at least one dose of vaccine and over 16,400 are fully vaccinated.
