Airola Fire Evening Update from the Calaveras Sheriff’s Office

Vallecito, CA…Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Airola Fire 8:00pm update: There is no update on acreage at this time. Last report was between 700-1000 acres. Fire is still listed at 0% containment. Evacuation Order for the Vallecito area is still in affect and expected to remain throughout the night. The surrounding area of Murphys and Douglas Flat were put on Evacuation Warning only earlier this afternoon. No additional Evacuation Orders or Warnings have been issued since the initial response to the fire.

Parrots Ferry Road is expected to remain closed through the night. Highway 4 remains open.

Calaveras Office of Education advises that Michelson Elementary School will be closed tomorrow, 8-26-21, out of caution. The Vallecito Transition school will also be closed tomorrow.

Sheriff’s Office personnel assisted with the initial evacuations and will continue to patrol the evacuated area and work throughout the night.

This post will be updated if changes occur regarding evacuation orders.

Incident Alert and Evacuation Orders
A wildland fire started around 3:30 pm in the Stanislaus River Canyon near the Parrots Ferry Bridge in Calaveras County. The fire is currently approximately 750 acres.

The following areas are under immediate evacuation orders:

​Vallecito: All of Parrots Ferry Road from the Tuolumne/Calaveras County line at Parrots Ferry Bridge to Highway 4 including Moaning Cavern and Camp Nine Road areas as well as East of Red Hill Road to Parrots Ferry Road
​The towns of Douglas Flat and Murphys are on Evacuation Warning only at this time.

An evacuation center is being set up at Mark Twain Elementary school in Angels Camp.
