Caltrans to Begin Culvert Replacement Project on State Route 49 in Tuolumne County

Jamestown, CA…The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces a full closure of a section of State Route (SR) 49 in Tuolumne County, for approximately 10 days for culvert replacement near Chinese Camp and Montezuma. A complete closure of SR-49 from south of the junction with State Route 108 to just south of Montezuma is scheduled from 7:00 A.M. on Monday, October 25, 2021 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, November 8, 2021.

Crews will replace three aging culverts in the area with 3(EA) 4’ x 3’ precast concrete culverts.  DRM Construction of Copperopolis, California, will perform the work with a bid of approximately $287,000.    Detours will be marked for State Routes 108 and 120.  When completed, the new culverts will improve channeling of water and reduce the chance of flooding on State Route 49 in the area.

Work is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or materials and construction related issues. For the safety of workers and other motorists, please Be Work Zone Alert.
