This year’s tour will involve discussions with the vineyard manager AND the winemakers at each vineyard to help our guests understand how a premium wine is created from the vineyard to the bottle and the important steps that need to occur along the way. It is our desire to show the importance of the relationship between the grower and ther winery and how their dialogue sets the stage for high-quality wine production.

As usual, the Vineyard Tour is an educational program that allows wine industry members as well as the general public to visit many of the Calaveras vineyards which contribute to the rise of the impact of region on the wine-drinking world. At each stop there will be discussions about every aspect of vineyard operations that affect wine-quality and land stewardship with topics ranging  from pest management, irrigation, fertilization, cover-croping, canopy management and other cultural practices. A general wrap-up of the day will be given by our guest specialists at the evening BBQ.

Our guest specialist, Glenn McGourty, is a seasoned expert in Organic and Biodynamic Winegrape production with a down-to-earth and practical approach to farming. Tour Specialist Lynn Wunderlich represents UCCE in the Central Sierra region and las worked tirelessly to help Foothill growers make their mark on the California wine map.

The vineyard tour registration fee is $25/person and includes lunch. You may drive your own car or shuttle service is available for an additional $30 per person (limited to 24 passengers). Since we will be pouring tastings at several vineyards and due to restricted access to some vineyards, we strongly recommended everyone take the bus. If you will be following in your own car and plan to taste wine, please have a designated driver.
