The case is an adult female between the ages of 18 to 49 years old. The person resides in Valley Springs.\u00a0 \u201cCoronavirus spreads when people are in close contact with one another \u2013 within six feet for a long enough period of time,\u201d said Dr. Dean Kelaita, Calaveras County Health Officer. \u201cPlaces that have opened up in our county are not risk-free and people are urged to take action to protect the health and well-being of ourselves, our families, and our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-98549\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/cccovid.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"571\" height=\"271\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/cccovid.jpg 571w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/cccovid-300x142.jpg 300w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/cccovid-570x271.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 571px) 100vw, 571px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Calaveras Public Health staff is investigating the new case to determine any possible persons who may have had close personal contact with the positive individual. Close contacts will be contacted by the health department, assessed and monitored for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 illness. Those with close contact may be recommended to be tested for COVID-19 infection.<\/p>\n<p>There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19. The best protection against COVID-19 continues to be to:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Stay at least 6 feet away from people outside of your household<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissues, or your elbow (not your hands)<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Wear a face covering over your nose and mouth to protect others<\/p>\n<p>The days and hours will change for the OptumServe COVID-19 testing site located at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds. Starting next week, the testing site will be open Tuesday-Saturday from 7:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Testing is available to those age 12 and older. Walk-ins are welcome but people are highly encouraged to register online by going to www.lhi.care\/covidtesting. People without internet access should call (888) 634-1123. No-cost testing is available to anyone who would like to get one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf testing shows that you are infected with the virus it means that you can pass it to other people with or without having any symptoms and should stay home except to get medical care,\u201d said Dr. Kelaita. \u201cWhether you are infected or not you should continue to take preventive actions to protect yourself and others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms can appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Fever or chills<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Cough<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Fatigue<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Muscle or body aches<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Headache<br \/>\n\uf0b7 New loss of taste or smell<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Sore throat<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Congestion or runny nose<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Nausea or vomiting<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Diarrhea<\/p>\n<p>The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases for Calaveras County is now twenty-six. Of those confirmed cases, fifteen cases have since recovered.
