The two unrelated cases include one adult female and one adult male both between the ages of 18 to 49 years old. Both cases reside in the Valley Springs area. The source of exposure is being investigated. \u201cPeople should stay home as much as possible, especially those at higher risk for severe illness to COVID-19. Take the necessary preventive actions to keep Calaveras County safe and healthy if you do go out,\u201d said Dr. Dean Kelaita, Calaveras County Health Officer. \u201cEveryone plays a crucial role in protecting the health and well-being of our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/cccovid.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"571\" height=\"271\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-98549\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/cccovid.jpg 571w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/cccovid-300x142.jpg 300w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/cccovid-570x271.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 571px) 100vw, 571px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19. The best protection against COVID-19 continues to be to:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Stay at least 6 feet away from people outside of your household<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissues, or your elbow (not your hands)<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Wear a face covering over your nose and mouth to protect others<\/p>\n<p>Calaveras Public Health staff is investigating the two new cases to determine any possible persons who may have had close personal contact with the positive individual. Close contacts will be contacted by the health department, assessed and monitored for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 illness. Those with close contact may be recommended to be tested for COVID-19 infection.<\/p>\n<p>No-cost testing for COVID-19 is available to anyone who would like to get one. The OptumServe COVID-19 testing site located at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds is open Tuesday-Saturday from 7:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Testing is available to those age 12 and older. Walk-ins are welcome but people are highly encouraged to register online<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms can appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these<br \/>\nsymptoms may have COVID-19:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Fever or chills<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Cough<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Fatigue<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Muscle or body aches<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Headache<br \/>\n\uf0b7 New loss of taste or smell<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Sore throat<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Congestion or runny nose<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Nausea or vomiting<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Diarrhea<\/p>\n<p>Starting June 18, Californians must wear face coverings in common and public indoor<br \/>\nspaces and outdoors when physical distancing is not possible. \u201cIn addition to social<br \/>\ndistancing, wearing a face covering is one of the most effective things people can do to<br \/>\nreduce the chances of transmitting COVID-19\u201d, said Dr. Kelaita. \u201cFace coverings are<br \/>\nespecially important when unable to maintain 6 feet of physical distance from others,\u201d<br \/>\nhe added. Learn about the guidance and limited exceptions here.<\/p>\n<p>The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases for Calaveras County is now twentyeight.<br \/>\nOf those confirmed cases, fifteen cases have since recovered.
