<\/p>\nSan Andreas, CA…Biweekly Report: New Case of COVID-19 Confirmed in Calaveras County.\u00a0 On Tuesday, June 23, 2020, Calaveras Public Health reported one additional case of COVID-19 in Calaveras County. The case is an adult male over the age of 65 years old. The case resides in the West Point area. The source of exposure is being investigated. \u201cPeople should stay home as much as possible and take the necessary preventive actions to keep Calaveras County safe and healthy if you do go out,\u201d said Dr. Dean Kelaita, Calaveras County Health Officer.<\/p>\n

The best protection against COVID-19 continues to be to:
\n\uf0b7 Stay at least 6 feet away from people outside of your household
\n\uf0b7 Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
\n\uf0b7 Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
\n\uf0b7 Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissues, or your elbow (not your hands)
\n\uf0b7 Wear a face covering over your nose and mouth to protect others<\/p>\n
Calaveras Public Health staff is investigating the new case to determine any possible persons who may have had close personal contact with the positive individual. Close contacts will be contacted by the health department, assessed and monitored for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 illness. Those with close contact may be recommended to be tested for COVID-19 infection.<\/p>\n
No-cost testing for COVID-19 is available to anyone who would like to get one. The OptumServe COVID-19 testing site located at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds is open Tuesday-Saturday from 7:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Testing is available to those age 12 and older. Walk-ins are welcome but people are highly encouraged to register online by going to www.lhi.care\/covidtesting. People without internet access should call (888) 634-1123.<\/p>\n
Symptoms can appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:
\n\uf0b7 Fever or chills
\n\uf0b7 Cough
\n\uf0b7 Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
\n\uf0b7 Fatigue
\n\uf0b7 Muscle or body aches
\n\uf0b7 Headache
\n\uf0b7 New loss of taste or smell
\n\uf0b7 Sore throat
\n\uf0b7 Congestion or runny nose
\n\uf0b7 Nausea or vomiting
\n\uf0b7 Diarrhea<\/p>\n
All people in California must wear face coverings in common and public indoor spaces and outdoors when physical distancing of at least 6 feet is not possible. \u201cIn addition to social distancing, wearing a face covering is one of the most effective things people can do to reduce the chances of transmitting COVID-19\u201d, said Dr. Kelaita. \u201cThe use of face coverings can limit the release of droplets when an infected person talks, coughs, or sneezes,\u201d he added. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases for Calaveras County is now twenty-nine. Of those confirmed cases, sixteen cases have since recovered. To date, there have been no reported deaths to COVID-19.
