While those over 65 years old are at higher risk of hospitalization or death, younger folks are also developing more serious disease as well. Everyone in our community is either at risk or can spread the virus to someone who is, so let\u2019s do everything we can to prevent a surge of COVID-19 and protect our community,\u201d said Dr. Dean Kelaita, Calaveras County Health Officer. \u201cPeople are urged to stay home as much as possible and avoid crowded places, confined spaces, and close contact with people not from your household. Local business must continue to follow directives to keep patrons safe and healthy, as well as require employees and customers wear face coverings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To date, Calaveras Public Health has reported sixty-seven confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of those cases, twenty-one cases have since recovered and forty-six cases remain active. There have been no reported deaths related to COVID-19 in Calaveras County at this time.<\/p>\n<p>The best ways to avoid exposure to the virus are to:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Stay at least 6 feet away from people outside of your household<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Wear a face covering over your nose and mouth when around others<\/p>\n<p>Calaveras Public Health staff continues to investigate new cases to determine any possible persons who may have had close personal contact with the positive individuals. The OptumServe COVID-19 testing site located at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds is open Tuesday-Saturday from 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Testing is available to those age 12 and older. Walk-ins are not accepted at this time. People are highly encouraged to register online by going to www.lhi.care\/covidtesting. People without Internet access should call (888) 634-1123.<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms can appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus.
