The additional cases include 1 female between 0 to 17 years of age, 1 female between 50-64 years of age, and 7 females and 4 males over 65 years of age. There were 11 cases reported in District 1, and Districts 2 and 5 each had one case. There were no cases to report in Districts 3 &#038; 4.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/090820-COVID-19-BY-THE-NUMBERS.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"828\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-106943\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/090820-COVID-19-BY-THE-NUMBERS.jpg 640w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/090820-COVID-19-BY-THE-NUMBERS-232x300.jpg 232w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/090820-COVID-19-BY-THE-NUMBERS-570x737.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JD8_cCHZ2nw\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Of the 13 reported cases, 11 cases are linked to an outbreak among residents of Avalon Health Care San Andreas. Enhanced testing of all residents and staff continues as Avalon infection control staff work closely with Calaveras Public Health in consultation with the California Department of Public Health to control the outbreak. Disease surveillance and prompt identification of any new cases is ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>Last week Avalon Health Care San Andreas reported 5 COVID-19 deaths among its residents. Calaveras Public Health undertakes a thorough and formal review of any death to ensure accurate and official information is reported to the public. Any deaths suspected of being from COVID-19 are not shared with the public until Calaveras Public Health has received an official cause of death from a physician, coroner, or other official. This helps prevent any errors in reporting. Once a death is confirmed it will be added to our biweekly COVID-19 numbers shared with the public.<br \/>\nCalaveras Public Health is not reporting any additional deaths in the current reporting period.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe current outbreak within Avalon has accelerated our increased rate of COVID-19 infections for the whole county. Addressing this situation is our top priority. Calaveras County is still among California Counties where the county risk level is substantial. This means that some indoor business operations are allowed to proceed with specific modifications. We must remain vigilant. People can help Calaveras lower its risk by taking necessary steps to prevent being exposed to COVID-19,\u201d said Dr. Dean Kelaita, Calaveras County Health Officer. \u201cPractice physical distancing, wear a face covering, get tested, wash your hands often, stay home if you are sick, and avoid any gatherings where physical distancing and masking is not being followed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To date, Calaveras Public Health has reported 286 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of those cases, 253 cases have since recovered while 31 cases remain active. There have been a total of two confirmed deaths related to COVID-19 reported in Calaveras County.<\/p>\n<p>Calaveras Public Health staff continues to investigate new cases to determine any possible persons who may have had close personal contact with the positive<\/p>\n<p>individuals. Close contacts may be contacted by the health department, assessed and monitored for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 illness.<\/p>\n<p>A new tiered system was recently put into place by the State of California to monitor the risk level of California counties. Every county is assigned to a tier based on its rate of new cases and positivity. At a minimum, counties must remain in a tier for at least 3 weeks before moving forward. Data is reviewed weekly and tiers are updated on Tuesdays. To move forward, a county must meet the next tier\u2019s criteria for two consecutive weeks. If a county\u2019s metrics worsen for two consecutive weeks, it will be assigned a more restrictive tier. The tiers are: purple (widespread), substantial (red), moderate (orange), and minimal (yellow). <\/p>\n<p>Calaveras County is currently in the substantial (red) tier. This means that some non-essential indoor business operations will be open and some will be closed. For more information about what will be open and how visit the Blueprint for a Safer Economy website.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone is at risk for getting COVID-19 if they are exposed to the virus. Some people are more likely than others to become severely ill. This means that they may need to be hospitalized, require a ventilator to help them breathe, or they may even die. Older adults and people with underlying medical conditions are at increased risk for severe illness and death from COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>The best ways to avoid exposure to the virus are to:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Stay home if you are sick<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Stay at least 6 feet away from people outside of your household<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Wear a face covering over your nose and mouth when around others<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms can appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Fever or chills<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Cough<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Fatigue<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Muscle or body aches<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Headache<br \/>\n\uf0b7 New loss of taste or smell<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Sore throat<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Congestion or runny nose<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Nausea or vomiting<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Diarrhea<\/p>\n<p>Look for emergency warning signs for COVID-19. If someone is showing signs, seek emergency care immediately:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Trouble breathing<br \/>\n\uf0b7 New confusion or weakness<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Bluish lips or face<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Persistent pain or pressure in the chest<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Inability to wake or stay awake<\/p>\n<p>No-cost testing for COVID-19 is available to anyone who would like to get tested. The OptumServe COVID-19 testing site located at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds is open Tuesday-Saturday from 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Testing is available to those age 3 and older.
