Pharmaceutical Care Management Association<\/em>\u00a0that upholds the rights of states to regulate and address the rising cost of prescription drugs. In March, the attorney general\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/news\/press-releases\/attorney-general-becerra-leads-bipartisan-coalition-defending-states%E2%80%99-rights\" href=\"https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/news\/press-releases\/attorney-general-becerra-leads-bipartisan-coalition-defending-states%E2%80%99-rights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/news\/press-releases\/attorney-general-becerra-leads-bipartisan-coalition-defending-states%25E2%2580%2599-rights&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1607737859560000&amp;usg=AFQjCNE1gWwZrCyPqi4V3qNkzGCaYh8lCg\">led a bipartisan coalition of 46 attorneys general<\/a>\u00a0in filing an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/system\/files\/attachments\/press-docs\/18-540tsacCalifornia.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/system\/files\/attachments\/press-docs\/18-540tsacCalifornia.pdf&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1607737859560000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGaMLCzf-LjGwqqnSJdrGPQy2TnYA\">amicus brief in the Supreme Court<\/a>\u00a0supporting the state of Arkansas\u2019 position that federal law does not prevent states from regulating pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs). In the brief, the coalition also argued\u00a0that regulation of the prescription drug market, including PBMs, is a critical tool states use to protect residents and address the access and affordability of prescription drugs. The Court agreed that federal law does not preempt these widespread and important state regulations.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-111334\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/xyz_becerra.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"213\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/xyz_becerra.jpg 640w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/xyz_becerra-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/xyz_becerra-570x380.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cStates are on the frontlines of the fight to keep prescription drug prices down and make them more accessible to those who rely on them,\u201d\u00a0<b>said Attorney General Becerra<\/b>. \u201cWe are happy the Supreme Court recognized today that states must be able to regulate PBMs, the pharmaceutical middlemen who manipulate drug prices and access. Today\u2019s decision will ensure states are able to improve prescription drug marketplace transparency and protect access to affordable medication.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>PBMs act as\u00a0intermediaries\u00a0between pharmacies, drug manufacturers, health insurance plans, and consumers.
