The report, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/library\/publications\/2021\/acs\/acsbr-009.html\">Bachelor\u2019s Degree Attainment in the United States: 2005 to 2019<\/a>, is based on statistics from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/programs-surveys\/acs.html\">American Community Survey<\/a>\u00a0(ACS). Since 2010, the ACS has published estimates based on five years of data for geographic areas down to the census tract and block-group levels. For the first time ever, these estimates are available for three consecutive, nonoverlapping periods (2005-2009, 2010-2014, and 2015-2019), providing trend data for small population groups and geographies covering a combined 15-year period.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/1614009715946.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-115073\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/1614009715946.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/1614009715946.jpg 950w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/1614009715946-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/1614009715946-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/1614009715946-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/1614009715946-570x570.jpg 570w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/1614009715946-701x701.jpg 701w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/1614009715946-30x30.jpg 30w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bachelor\u2019s degrees are important markers of progress for both individuals and society. People with a bachelor\u2019s degree typically have higher lifetime earnings, lower odds of unemployment, and better health outcomes than those without one. The report presents findings for all race groups and national and county-level changes in bachelor\u2019s degree attainment in the United States from 2005-2009 to 2015-2019.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"par_textimage_442896131\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"textimage parbase section\">\n<div>\n<div id=\"ti763098942\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"uscb-color-primary uscb-layout-row uscb-layout-align-flex-start uscb-text-align-left uscb-margin-T-20\">\n<h3 class=\"uscb-h3\">Highlights include:<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<section>\n<div class=\"uscb-text-image-text uscb-text-media-text uscb-padding-LR-0\">\n<ul>\n<li>The percentage of the population 25 years and over with a bachelor\u2019s degree or higher increased by about 1.8 percentage points between 2005-2009 and 2010-2014, and 2.8 percentage points between 2010-2014 and 2015-2019.<\/li>\n<li>From 2005-2009 to 2015-2019, the percentage of people with a bachelor\u2019s degree increased for all race groups. For 2015-2019, Asian alone had the highest rate of bachelor\u2019s degree attainment (54.3%), followed by White alone, non-Hispanics.<\/li>\n<li>57.7% of counties in the United States saw increases in the percentage of people with bachelor\u2019s degrees from 2005-2009 to 2015-2019.<\/li>\n<li>Counties in the Northeast region of the United States had a higher percentage of people with bachelor\u2019s degrees than all other regions in the country for 2015-2019 as well as the highest percentage point increase in bachelor\u2019s degree attainment from 2005-2009 to 2015-2019 among census regions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Detailed tabulations, related information and historic data are available on the Census Bureau\u2019s Educational Attainment page at &lt;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/topics\/education\/educational-attainment.html\">www.census.gov\/topics\/education\/educational-attainment.html<\/a>&gt;.<\/p>\n<p>The ACS is a nationwide survey designed to provide timely and reliable data every year on the demographic, social, economic and housing characteristics of the nation, states, counties and other localities. The survey has an annual sample size of about 3.5 million addresses across the United States and Puerto Rico, and includes housing units and group quarters. The ACS is conducted in every county in the nation. The ACS 1-year estimates are released for geographic areas with populations of 65,000 or greater. The ACS 5-year estimates are released for all geographic areas.
