teresapry@angelscamp.gov<\/a><\/p>\nThe Angels Camp Police Department has been awarded a $81,000.00 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for a year-long program of special enforcements and public awareness efforts to prevent traffic related deaths and injuries. The Angels Camp Police Department will use the funding as part of the city\u2019s ongoing commitment to keep our roadways safe and improve the quality of life through both enforcement and education.<\/p>\n
“As evidenced by several recent tragic accidents, we need to step up our education and enforcement efforts for the community at large, regarding the dangers associated with driving on our rural and sometimes unforgiving roadways.” -Angels Camp Police Department Chief Todd Fordahl<\/p>\n
After falling dramatically between 2006 and 2010, the number of persons killed and injured in traffic collisions has been slowly rising. Particularly alarming are recent increases in pedestrian and bicycle fatalities, the growing dangers of distracting technologies, and the emergence of drug-impaired driving as a major problem. This grant funding will provide opportunities to combat these and other devastating problems such as drunk driving, speeding and crashes at intersections.<\/p>\n
\u201cOverall, California\u2019s roadways are among the safest in the nation,\u201d said OTS Director Rhonda Craft. \u201cBut to meet future mobility, safety, and accessible transportation objectives, we have to reverse this recent trend in order to reach our common goal \u2013 zero deaths on our roadways. The Office of Traffic Safety and the Angels Camp Police Department want to work with everyone to create a culture of traffic safety throughout Angels Camp and the state.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2022 DUI checkpoints<\/p>\n
\u2022 DUI saturation patrols<\/p>\n
\u2022 Motorcycle safety and DUI enforcement<\/p>\n
\u2022 Distracted driving enforcement<\/p>\n
\u2022 Seat belt and child safety seat enforcement<\/p>\n
\u2022 Bicycle and pedestrian safety enforcement<\/p>\n
\u2022 Speed, red light, and stop sign enforcement<\/p>\n
\u2022 Compilation of DUI \u201cHot Sheets,\u201d identifying worst-of-the-worst DUI offenders<\/p>\n
\u2022 Specialized DUI and drugged driving training such as Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST), Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE), and Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE)<\/p>\n
