From CDCR…”California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials apprehended a minimum-security inmate who walked away from Vallecito Conservation Camp (CC#1) in Calaveras County on Aug. 14.<\/p>\n

Torrence Weitzel was apprehended without incident as he attempted to flee from a residence in the Bakersfield area around 3:45 p.m. by investigators and special agents from CDCR\u2019s Office of Correctional Safety, Special Service Unit. Local law enforcement assisted in the arrest. <\/p>\n
Weitzel has been transported to North Kern State Prison and will no longer be eligible to be housed in a conservation camp. The case will be referred to the local district attorney\u2019s office for possible escape charges.<\/p>\n
Weitzel, 25, walked away from Vallecito Conservation Camp in Angels Camp yesterday following the morning count. He was received by CDCR in March 2021 from Kern County with a five-year sentence for discharging a firearm, buying\/receiving stolen property and vehicle theft.<\/p>\n
Since 1977, 99 percent of all offenders who have left an adult institution, camp or community-based program without permission have been apprehended.”<\/p>\n
