Sacramento, CA…Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that, within hours of California\u2019s request<\/a>, the White House has approved a Presidential Emergency Declaration for Direct Federal Assistance to bolster the response to the Caldor Fire in El Dorado, Amador, Alpine and Placer counties.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe thank President Biden and Vice President Harris for their steadfast support to California as we battle these challenging fires,\u201d said Governor Newsom \u201cOur continued partnership with the federal government is critical to protecting communities and ensuring impacted Californians have the supports they need to get back on their feet.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Presidential Emergency Declaration for the Caldor Fire will supplement state, local and tribal government emergency services for the protection of lives, property, public health and safety.<\/span><\/p>\n

Even as the Caldor Fire burns, Governor Newsom has directed state agencies to rapidly and thoroughly document the extent of the damage to ensure the state is able to pursue further federal support for individuals and communities impacted by the fire, which to date has burned more than 207,000 acres and ranks as the 15th\u00a0largest fire in state history.\u00a0<\/span>More information on how federal disaster declarations are declared can be found\u00a0here.<\/a><\/p>\n

Governor Newsom on Monday proclaimed a state of emergency in\u00a0Alpine, Amador and Placer counties<\/a>\u00a0due to the Caldor Fire, following the emergency\u00a0proclamation issued for El Dorado County earlier this month. The state has\u00a0secured<\/a>\u00a0a Fire Management Assistance Grant\u202f(FMAG) from FEMA to help ensure the availability of vital resources to suppress\u202fthis\u00a0rapidly spreading fire.<\/span><\/p>\n

The White House last week approved California\u2019s request for a\u00a0Presidential Major Disaster Declaration<\/a>, including supports available to wildfire-impacted residents and assistance for state, tribal and local governments with ongoing emergency response and recovery costs.\u00a0California recently secured FMAGs to support the state\u2019s response to the\u00a0Dixie Fire in\u00a0Lassen<\/a>,\u00a0Butte and Plumas counties<\/a>\u00a0and the response to the\u00a0French Fire<\/a>,\u00a0Caldor Fire<\/a>,\u00a0Monument\u00a0Fire<\/a>,\u00a0River Fire<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Lava Fire<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Governor Newsom has activated the State Operations Center to its highest level\u00a0and proclaimed a state of emergency in counties impacted by the\u00a0Caldor<\/a>\u00a0Fire<\/a>,\u00a0McFarland and Monument fires<\/a>,\u00a0Antelope and River fires<\/a>,\u00a0Dixie, Fly and Tamarack fires<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Lava Fire and Beckwourth Complex Fire<\/a>.\u00a0The Governor has also signed\u00a0executive<\/a>\u00a0orders<\/a>\u00a0to support impacted communities and bolster wildfire response and recovery efforts. CAL FIRE and Cal OES personnel are responding in concert with other federal, state and local agencies to address emergency management and mutual aid needs for the fires.<\/p>\n
