Launched by the UK COP presidency, the <a href=\"https:\/\/cop26transportdeclaration.org\/en\/?contextKey=en\">COP26 Declaration on Zero-Emission Cars and Vans<\/a>\u00a0aims to achieve 100% zero emission vehicle sales by 2035 in leading markets, and no later than 2040 globally.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailytide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/cagov.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7257\" src=\"https:\/\/dailytide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/cagov.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"218\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Governor provided pre-recorded\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=A1C9SSelGtI\">remarks for COP26 Transport Day<\/a>\u00a0today\u00a0lauding the agreement and lifting up California\u2019s world-leading policies to usher in a clean transportation future. California last month surpassed one million zero-emission vehicle sales, a top export for the state. In Glasgow, California Air Resources Board Chair Liane Randolph participated in the launch of the joint declaration today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCalifornia is proud to be leading the way along with so many global partners to build a clean transportation future,\u201d said Governor Newsom. \u201cThis is the most impactful step we can take to fight climate change and it will take partners working together across all sectors of society to accelerate the transition. As the fifth largest economy in the world, California will continue to use our market power to push zero-emission vehicle innovation and drive down costs for everyone as we clean the air and create a healthier future for our children and the planet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>California is home to more than 485,000 clean energy jobs and the state\u2019s renewable energy and clean vehicle industries lead the nation in growth. Since taking office, the Governor has taken bold action to\u00a0eliminate harmful emissions from the transportation sector and drive the transition to zero-emission vehicles. Governor Newsom made a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2020\/09\/23\/governor-newsom-announces-california-will-phase-out-gasoline-powered-cars-drastically-reduce-demand-for-fossil-fuel-in-californias-fight-against-climate-change\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">historic commitment<\/a>\u00a0to require that\u00a0sales of all new passenger vehicles be zero-emission by 2035 and aggressively decarbonize heavy-duty vehicles such as trains, trucks and buses. The state has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ww2.arb.ca.gov\/news\/california-adopts-strong-new-regulation-further-reduce-smog-forming-pollution-heavy-duty\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">targeted<\/a>\u00a0emissions from the heavy-duty sector with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ww2.arb.ca.gov\/news\/california-takes-bold-step-reduce-truck-pollution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bold action<\/a>\u00a0to reduce pollution in disproportionately impacted communities.<\/p>\n<p>The California Comeback Plan includes a $3.9 billion package to accelerate our zero-emission\u00a0vehicle (ZEV)\u00a0goals, including funding for clean vehicle infrastructure and to help drive consumer adoption of ZEVs. Earlier this year, Governor Newsom joined\u00a0a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2021\/04\/21\/california-governor-newsom-joins-bipartisan-group-of-12-governors-calling-for-bold-federal-action-to-accelerate-the-clean-vehicle-transition-across-the-u-s\/\">bipartisan group<\/a>\u00a0of 12 governors from across the country calling for the Biden Administration to create a path with the states to ensure that all new vehicles sold in the U.S. will be zero-emission in the near future and amplify states\u2019 investments in ZEV charging and fueling infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>California\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ww2.arb.ca.gov\/news\/cop26-california-assumes-leadership-international-alliance-boost-carbon-free-transportation\">today<\/a>\u00a0also assumed leadership of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tda-mobility.org\/charge-to-move-and-accelerate\/\">Transportation Decarbonisation Alliance<\/a>,\u00a0a unique collaboration bringing together countries, cities or regions and companies as the major drivers in sustainable, low-carbon mobility, and unveiled a Call to Action on Zero-Emission Infrastructure developed in partnership with the Netherlands to support\u00a0public-private collaboration on the deployment of charging infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Led by Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, California\u2019s delegation at COP26 last week highlighted the state\u2019s groundbreaking policies to combat the intensifying climate crisis and joined with international partners, top U.S. climate officials and representatives from other states and regions to discuss efforts to enhance collaboration on a wide array of climate action.
