<\/p>\nPhiladelphia, PA…Hey, folks. With regard to Texas and the synagogue, I spoke this morning with the Attorney General and \u2014 to get a rundown. He said there\u2019s overwhelming cooperation with the local authorities and the FBI, and they did one hell of a job. <\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
This was an act of terror. This was an act of terror. And it not only was related to someone who had been arrested, I might add, 15 years ago and been in jail for 10 years \u2014 the idea that it was something new. <\/p>\n
And they did just a great job. <\/p>\n
I also told him that I wanted to make sure we got the word out to synagogues and places of worship that we\u2019re not going to tolerate this, that we have this capacity to deal with the assaults on particularly the antisemitism that has grown up. <\/p>\n
And so \u2014 and I\u2019ll be talking with \u2014 I put a call into the rabbi. We missed one another on the way up here. And \u2014 but they should rest assured that we are focused. We are focused. The Attorney General is focused. I\u2019m making sure that we deal with these kinds of acts. <\/p>\n
And thank God \u2014 thank God we have such a professional FBI, as well as \u2014 the local cooperation, I was told, was incredible. It was seamless. So, I just wanted to let you know that. <\/p>\n

Q Mr. President, how could this gentl- \u2014 how could this man have gotten weapons? There\u2019s reports that he\u2019s only been in the country for a couple of \u2014<\/p>\n
THE PRESIDENT: Well \u2014<\/p>\n
Q \u2014 weeks. <\/p>\n
THE PRESIDENT: \u2014 allegedly \u2014 I \u2014 we \u2014 I don\u2019t have all the facts, nor does the Attorney General. But, allegedly, the assertion was he got the weapons on the street. He purchased them when he landed. <\/p>\n
And \u2014 and it turns out there apparently were no bombs that we know of. That \u2014 you know, he said that there are bombs he has as well. <\/p>\n
But he \u2014 apparently, he spent the first night in a homeless shelter. I don\u2019t have all the detail yet, so I\u2019m reluctant to go into more \u2014 much more detail. <\/p>\n
But \u2014 and, allegedly, he purchased it on the street. Now what that means, I don\u2019t know. Whether he purchased it from an individual in a homeless shelter or a homeless community, or whether \u2014 because that\u2019s where he said he was \u2014 it\u2019s hard to tell. I just don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n
Q (Inaudible) ramifications for the push to \u2014 on \u2014 to ensure that guns are not available?<\/p>\n
THE PRESIDENT: Well, no \u2014 well, it does but it also doesn\u2019t. The guns are \u2014 we should be \u2014 the idea of background checks are critical. But you can\u2019t stop something like this if someone is on the street buying something from somebody else on the street. Except that there\u2019s too \u2014 there\u2019s so many guns that have been sold of late; it\u2019s just ridiculous. <\/p>\n
And it\u2019s because of the failure of us to focus as hard as we should and as consistent as we should on gun purchases, gun sales, ghost guns, and a whole range of things that I\u2019m trying to do.<\/p>\n
Q Mr. President, do you know more about the motivations of the person? <\/p>\n
THE PRESIDENT: No, I don\u2019t. I \u2014 there\u2019s speculation, but I\u2019m not going to get into that. I will \u2014 I\u2019m going to have a press conference on Wednesday, and I\u2019ll be happy to go into detail of what I know in detail at that time. <\/p>\n
Q Do you know why he targeted that specific synagogue, Mr. President?<\/p>\n
THE PRESIDENT: Well, no, I don\u2019t. We don\u2019t have \u2014 I don\u2019t think there is sufficient information to know about why he targeted that synagogue or why he insisted on the release of someone who\u2019s been in prison for over 10 years, why he was engaged \u2014 why he was using antisemitic and anti-Israeli comments. I \u2014 we just don\u2019t have enough facts. <\/p>\n
