<\/a><\/p>\nA fundraiser for Feeney Park\u2014a community resource managed and supported solely by volunteers\u2014Mr. Frog\u2019s Wild Ride went dark due to the pandemic. This year the Feeney Park Board of Directors want to bring the ride back to real-time, and they want to do it in a big way. Local cyclists Keith Maurer, Peter Maurer, and Motherlode Bicycle Coalition board members Rob Williams and Carl Baker scouted three new routes that loop from Feeney Park into the foothills and mid-elevation up-country that surround Murphys.<\/p>\n
Each of the three rides are challenging to some degree, with remote routes on a variety of road surfaces, heart-thumping climbs and winding descents, all on back roads that emphasize the wildness of Mr. Frog\u2019s Ride. Williams, who is organizing the ride, advises that while a SAG wagon will be available to rescue worn-out cyclists, riders should honestly assess their capabilities, and that, once on the road, \u201cride slowly and enjoy yourself. It\u2019s a ride, not a race.\u201d Of course, e-bikes provide a welcome boost and are perfectly acceptable on this ride.<\/p>\n
Along the way, riders will find fully-stocked rest stops; restrooms will be available. All rides return to Feeney Park, where an after-ride party will include barbecue and live music.<\/p>\n
The event owes its success to volunteers who do everything from check-in, to food prep, to ride safety. Board member Susan Lyneis extends an invitation to the community to participate in the event. \u201cIf you\u2019re not a rider, but you\u2019d like to volunteer or sponsor the ride, we\u2019d love to have you,\u201d she says. \u201cIt\u2019s a great group of people. Sometimes it\u2019s more fun to be a volunteer than it is to ride.\u201d<\/p>\n
Register in advance for Mr. Frog\u2019s Wild Ride online at www.mrfrogswildride.org. Or you can register the day of the event between 7 and 9 a.m.<\/p>\n
However you choose to participate\u2014as a cyclist or a volunteer\u2014you\u2019re bound to have a wonderful, wild time!<\/p>\n
