This month we\u2019re sharing\u00a0some of our favorite dog friendly outings in the area. The leash policy throughout Calaveras County is that dogs need to be on a maximum six foot leash or under voice command. On most of our trail systems you\u2019ll encounter bikers and hikers, as well as the local wildlife, so bear that in mind if your dog is inclined to chase after any of the above.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_115389\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gocalaveras.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/dog-sandy-price.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-115389\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-115389\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gocalaveras.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/dog-sandy-price.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gocalaveras.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/dog-sandy-price-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.gocalaveras.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/dog-sandy-price.jpg 600w\" alt=\"Photo by Sandy Price\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Sandy Price<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Lake Trails \u2013 If you\u2019re coming into the county and you\u2019ve been in the car all day, check out the trails at<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gocalaveras.com\/new-melones-lake\/\">New Melones<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gocalaveras.com\/new-hogan-lake-us-army-corps-of-engineers\/\">New Hogan Lakes<\/a>. \u00a0 Recreation trails here offer several short and moderate loops for a run or hike. Now is a great time, with cooler temperatures, the grasses are green and the wildflowers are blooming \u2013 and the snakes haven\u2019t yet emerged from their winter dens.<\/p>\n<p>In the Arnold area you\u2019ll find several entrances to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gocalaveras.com\/pooch-perspective-arnold-rim-trail\/\">Arnold Rim Trail<\/a>, which has 30+ miles of single track and fire roads meandering through the conifers at about 4000 feet in elevation. Make the trek to the rocks known as Top of the World for spectacular sunset views of the coastal mountains and Sierra foothills. The Stanislaus National Forest offers plenty of winter outdoor options. From one of the three official parking areas at the east end of Highway 4, you can head out for a day of snowshoeing or skiing. Don\u2019t forget your parking pass, available for $5 from<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gocalaveras.com\/snac-arnold\/\">SNAC<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gocalaveras.com\/ebbetts-pass-sporting-goods\/\">Ebbetts Pass Sporting Goods <\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gocalaveras.com\/bear-valley-snowmobile\/\">Bear Valley Snowmobile<\/a> or the\u00a0Bear Valley Cross Country Center.<\/p>\n<p>Did you bring everything your dog will need for multi-day outings? Try a canoe outing on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gocalaveras.com\/spicer-reservoir\/\">Spicer,<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gocalaveras.com\/union-reservoir\/\">Union<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gocalaveras.com\/utica-reservoir\/\">Utica <\/a>reservoirs (see above for life jacket rentals at SNAC).
