San Andreas, CA…The National Weather Service has extended the winter storm warning for most of Calaveras County through Wednesday, March 1st. A blizzard warning is in effect for high elevation regions of Calaveras County and is expected to last until Wednesday. Travel during this time could be very difficult to impossible. Gusty winds and snow could bring down tree branches leading to power outages.<\/p>\n

Calaveras County Health and Human Services Agency has extended the warming center throughout the remainder of the storm. Details are as follows:

\nTime: 9:00 am \u2013 5:00 pm<\/p>\n

Winter storms create a higher risk of car accidents, hypothermia, frostbite, carbon dioxide poisoning, and heart attacks from overexertion. Calaveras Public Health urges people to stay safe during winter weather:
\n\uf0b7 Stay off roads if at all possible. If you do travel, carry a flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
\n\uf0b7 Limit your time outside to avoid exposure to extreme cold. If you need to go outside, wear layers of warming clothing.
\n\uf0b7 Prepare for power outages.
\n\uf0b7 Reduce risk of a heart attack by avoiding overexertion when shoveling snow and walking in the snow.
\n\uf0b7 Learn the signs of frostbite and hypothermia.
\n\uf0b7 Call 9-1-1 for emergencies.
\nTo keep your home warm when the power goes out:
\n\uf0b7 Avoid unnecessarily opening doors and windows.
\n\uf0b7 Close off unneeded rooms.
\n\uf0b7 Stuff towels or rags in cracks under doors.
\n\uf0b7 Close curtains of cover windows with blankets at night.
\n\uf0b7 Eat well-balanced meals to help you stay warmer. Avoid alcohol or caffeine \u2013 they cause your body to lose heat faster.
