Last night, White House and State Department Officials spoke with Mr. Gershkovich\u2019s employer, the Wall Street Journal. The Administration has also been in contact with his family. Furthermore, the State Department has been in direct touch with the Russian government on this matter, including actively working to secure consular access to Mr. Gershkovich.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/5714718107544204171.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/5714718107544204171.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"261\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-158112\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/5714718107544204171.jpg 500w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/5714718107544204171-300x157.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The targeting of American citizens by the Russian government is unacceptable. We condemn the detention of Mr. Gershkovich in the strongest terms.<\/p>\n<p>We also condemn the Russian government\u2019s continued targeting and repression of journalists and freedom of the press.<\/p>\n<p>I want to strongly reiterate that Americans should heed the U.S. government\u2019s warning to not travel to Russia.
