{"id":158317,"date":"2023-04-04T11:27:02","date_gmt":"2023-04-04T18:27:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/?p=158317"},"modified":"2023-04-04T11:27:02","modified_gmt":"2023-04-04T18:27:02","slug":"california-secures-presidential-major-disaster-declaration-to-support-storm-response-and-recovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/?p=158317","title":{"rendered":"California Secures Presidential Major Disaster Declaration to Support Storm Response and Recovery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sacramento, CA&#8230;Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that the White House has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2023\/04\/03\/president-joseph-r-biden-jr-approves-california-disaster-declaration-4\/\">approved<\/a>\u00a0California\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/3.28.23-Major-Disaster-Declaration-request.pdf?emrc=c00780\">\u00a0request<\/a>\u00a0for a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration to further support the state\u2019s all-of-government emergency response and recovery efforts amid severe storm impacts throughout California.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/CaGov-seal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/CaGov-seal.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"218\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-97806\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/CaGov-seal.jpg 225w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/CaGov-seal-30x30.jpg 30w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis declaration brings in more vital resources as we continue to work in lockstep with local, state and federal partners to support communities that have been turned upside down by these storms,\u201d\u00a0said Governor Newsom. \u201cFirst responders and state personnel are on the ground in hard-hit regions across California to assist the ongoing response and recovery. We are committed to supporting our communities over the long haul and thank the Biden Administration for their continued partnership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Presidential Major Disaster Declaration will help Californians in impacted counties through eligibility for several programs and supports that can include housing assistance, food aid, counseling, and medical and legal services. Today\u2019s declaration makes federal funding available to affected individuals in Kern, Mariposa, Monterey, San Benito, Santa Cruz, Tulare, and Tuolumne counties. It also includes public assistance to help state, tribal and local governments with ongoing emergency response and recovery costs, and hazard mitigation.<\/p>\n<p>Additional counties may be added as further damage assessments are conducted, particularly in areas where record snowpack makes it difficult to accurately assess the full extent of damages.<\/p>\n<p>At Governor Newsom\u2019s request, President Biden previously issued a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=afffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55&amp;id=8b08eafe8d&amp;e=4445b5a765\">Presidential Emergency Declaration<\/a>\u00a0authorizing federal assistance to support storm response and recovery efforts. The Governor has proclaimed a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2023\/03\/28\/governor-newsom-expands-storm-state-of-emergency-requests-presidential-major-disaster-declaration-to-support-ongoing-response-and-recovery\/\">\u00a0storm state of emergency<\/a>\u00a0in 47 counties since the start of severe storms in late February, and last week issued an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2023\/03\/31\/governor-newsom-signs-executive-order-to-support-tulare-lake-basin-flood-response\/\">executive order<\/a>\u00a0to support flood response and recovery in Tulare Lake Basin communities.<\/p>\n<p>The Major Disaster Declaration further bolsters the state\u2019s ongoing<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2023\/03\/28\/governor-newsom-expands-storm-state-of-emergency-requests-presidential-major-disaster-declaration-to-support-ongoing-response-and-recovery\/\">\u00a0response and recovery efforts<\/a>\u00a0to support communities across California, including the deployment of the California National Guard and other state personnel to perform lifesaving rescue missions;
