<\/p>\nSan Andreas, CA…The County of Calaveras is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Massone as the new Director of Emergency Services for Calaveras County effective June 20, 2023. Mr. Massone has more than 30 years of experience in emergency response including 30 years with the San Diego Federal Fire Department and 3 years with California\u2019s Office of Emergency Services (CalOES).<\/p>\n

Mr. Massone\u2019s most recent employment was as the Northern Assistant Director of Response for CalOES where he was responsible for Response Operations and programs. Including oversight of operations for two administrative regions, the State Operations Center, 2 Regional Emergency Operations Centers, and the California State Warning Center. He was responsible for the oversight of 24\/7 response operations during emergencies and disasters, coordinating the activity of other state agencies, mutual aid assets, the federal government, local government, first responders, other states, and key officials. In this role, he also provided leadership and guidance to ensure emergency operations adhere to the Standardized Emergency Management System, the National Incident Management System and response doctrine and protocols.<\/p>\n
Mr. Massone also has extensive training in emergency services and holds numerous certifications including Fire Prevention, FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Specialist, Hazardous Materials\/WMD Specialist, FEMA Collapse Structure Technician, Command Level Wildland Fire Officer, and Emergency Medical Technician.<\/p>\n
Mr. Massone has also received multiple awards for his work including the 2020 Cal Fire Directors Partnership Award and the 2018 International Association of Firefighters Annual Leadership Award. In addition, he is a 5-time recipient of the San Diego Federal Fire Department lifesaving commendation and has multiple commendations for Emergency Operations (technical rescue, Statewide wildfires).<\/p>\n
Former colleagues of Mr. Massone describe him as an engaged leader who has excellent communication and critical thinking skills and is calm and collected in high stress situations.<\/p>\n
