{"id":165300,"date":"2023-08-14T10:36:58","date_gmt":"2023-08-14T17:36:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/?p=165300"},"modified":"2023-08-14T10:41:13","modified_gmt":"2023-08-14T17:41:13","slug":"letter-to-the-editor-meadowmont-ev-charging-station-sarah-jones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/?p=165300","title":{"rendered":"Letter to the Editor: Meadowmont EV Charging Station ~ Sarah Jones"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Arnold, CA&#8230;As a homeowner in Arnold, I\u2019m deeply concerned about the placement of Meadowmont Shopping Center\u2019s new electric vehicle charging station behind the complex, in the woods, adjacent to residences.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Soapbox7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"246\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25991\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Soapbox7.jpg 320w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Soapbox7-300x231.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To be clear, I fully support bringing electric vehicle charging station infrastructure to Calaveras county, and I recognize that the state is accelerating progress with financial incentives and the county is following along with streamlined permitting requirements. <\/p>\n<p>But, it&#8217;s the job of the local government to address and support the concerns of the community, and we&#8217;ve been given no opportunity to comment on the issues posed by fast-tracking permit approval of the building owners\u2019 choice to locate the project behind the store as opposed to the property\u2019s safe, expansive, highway-adjacent main parking lot.<\/p>\n<p>This location introduces numerous safety and quality-of-life issues, from the extreme fire risk posed by EVs to the light pollution, noise pollution, and the safety issues (for both visitors and residents) introduced by allowing 24-hour access to an obscured location without regard to security features or noise and light mitigation.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve reached out twice to the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors seeking transparency in this process and a path to productive dialogue, and I\u2019m still waiting for a response.<\/p>\n<p>As misinformation spreads and miscommunication clouds this issue, county residents deserve better communication and more support from their elected officials.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Jones<\/p>\n<p>Contributing editor, Mix<br \/>\nContributor, Popular Science<br \/>\nArchitecture, Engineering and Construction section editor, Autodesk Redshift<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Arnold, CA&#8230;As a homeowner in Arnold, I\u2019m deeply concerned about the placement of Meadowmont Shopping Center\u2019s new electric vehicle charging station behind the complex, in the woods, adjacent to residences.
