With the addition of these new officers, CHP \u2014 the largest state police agency in the country \u2014 now has over 6,600 sworn officers assigned across California. The 112 officers sworn in today are part of the CHP\u2019s multiyear recruiting campaign to fill 1,000 vacant officer positions by hiring qualified individuals from California\u2019s diverse communities.<\/p>\n
California is taking nation-leading action to strengthen public safety through increased funding, justice reforms, and innovation. Governor Newsom bolstered\u00a0support for victims<\/a>\u00a0and survivors of crime,\u00a0invested<\/a>\u00a0in officer health and well-being, signed\u00a0legislation<\/a>\u00a0to build\u00a0trust<\/a>\u00a0between communities and law enforcement, and announced\u00a0record-level funding<\/a>\u00a0to bolster public safety, including through the\u00a0Real Public Safety plan<\/a>.
