{"id":16999,"date":"2016-04-10T21:40:57","date_gmt":"2016-04-11T04:40:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/69.46.6.243\/?p=16999"},"modified":"2016-04-10T21:42:16","modified_gmt":"2016-04-11T04:42:16","slug":"columbia-college-community-chorus-concerts-are-april-23-and-24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/?p=16999","title":{"rendered":"Columbia College Community Chorus Concerts are April 23 and 24"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Columbia, CA&#8230;The Columbia College Community Chorus, conducted by Dr. Daryl Hollinger, will perform its annual Spring concert in the sanctuary of St. Matthew Lutheran Church on Saturday evening, April 23rd, at 7:30 p.m., and again on Sunday afternoon, April 24th, at 3:00 p.m.  The first half of this varied spring program features three of Dr. Hollinger&#8217;s original Psalm settings and the famous Mass in G by Franz Schubert for chorus, soprano, tenor and bass soloists with chamber orchestra. After a short intermission, the 43-member chorus will perform a lively group of well-known choruses from stage and opera: The popular Va, pensiero, from Verdi\u2019s Nabucco, choruses from Borodin\u2019s Prince Igor, Gounod\u2019s Faust, and Verdi\u2019s Il Travatore. A choral medley from Fiddler on the Roof and an audience sing-along from The Sound of Music are also on the program. A special treat will be three songs from Shakespeare&#8217;s plays set by jazz great George Shearing. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/DSC_0645-best-r.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"379\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17000\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/DSC_0645-best-r.jpg 640w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/DSC_0645-best-r-300x178.jpg 300w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/DSC_0645-best-r-570x338.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Hollinger, well-known for his choral conducting and musical compositions in the Lancaster, Pennsylvania area, took over the reins of the Community Chorus almost two years ago&#8211;following John Carter&#8217;s retirement as the chorus&#8217; long-time director. Daryl is a talented organist and composer, and teaches musicianship, music theory and piano at Columbia College. The Community Chorus also is fortunate to have Diane Day&#8217;s expert piano accompaniment for this concert.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets may be purchased at the Mountain Bookshop, Murphys Music Company, and Manzanita Bookstore at Columbia Community College, or from any Community Chorus member. Tickets are $10 each, or $5 for those under age 12; and they will be available at the door for $12.
