{"id":171199,"date":"2023-12-19T15:49:52","date_gmt":"2023-12-19T23:49:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/?p=171199"},"modified":"2023-12-19T15:51:52","modified_gmt":"2023-12-19T23:51:52","slug":"significant-loss-of-solar-jobs-in-every-part-of-california-following-cpuc-cuts-to-solar-incentives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/?p=171199","title":{"rendered":"Significant Loss of Solar Jobs in Every Part of California Following CPUC Cuts to Solar Incentives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sacramento, CA&#8230;The California Solar &amp; Storage Association (CALSSA) shared a new breakdown of recent solar job losses, showing the impact is being felt in every part of California.\u00a0 \u00a0Just over seven months ago the Governor Newsom-appointed California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) made\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/calssa.org\/press-releases\/2022\/12\/16\/calssa-statement-on-cpucs-vote-to-slash-solar-net-metering\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/calssa.org\/press-releases\/2022\/12\/16\/calssa-statement-on-cpucs-vote-to-slash-solar-net-metering&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1703114756492000&amp;usg=AOvVaw08WUWywjtjm1cJvFpjNxfF\">drastic reductions to Net Energy Metering<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 the program responsible for reducing the costs of going solar and making California a solar leader \u2014 by slashing the value of solar energy shared back to the grid by solar homes and businesses by 70-80% overnight. At the same time, the Commission and Governor Newsom promised to provide incentives for energy storage to help soften the blow but these incentives have yet to materialize or be fulfilled.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-171200\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/SolarAss.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"596\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/SolarAss.jpg 596w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/SolarAss-300x101.jpg 300w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/SolarAss-570x191.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 596px) 100vw, 596px\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Since the CPUC\u2019s decision, the solar industry is experiencing devastating results in the form of business closures and depression-level layoffs at a time when California should be celebrating a golden age of clean energy growth.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">A survey of California solar and storage companies found 17,000 jobs have or will be lost by the end of 2023 due the recent net metering changes. The massive job loss represents 22% of all solar jobs in California. But that is where we are today. Under the CPUC\u2019s leadership California is responsible for the largest loss of solar jobs in our nation\u2019s history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Despite the consequences, the CPUC continues to move in the wrong direction on solar.
