Americans participating in DEA’s ten previous National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day events turned in more than five million pounds of drugs at more than 5,000 sites manned by thousands of federal, state and local law enforcement partners including the Amador County Sheriff’s Office.

In an effort to prevent increased pill abuse and theft, the Amador County Sheriff’s
Office will be collecting potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted
prescription drugs for destruction at one location within Amador County. Many Americans
are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to
diversion, misuse and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States
remain at an alarming level according to the recently released 2014 National Survey on
Drug Use and Health (NSDUH).
