Sacramento, CA…State law enforcement officials continue to disrupt organized retail crime in California. Since January, the state\u2019s Organized Retail Crime Task Force has made 474 arrests and recovered more than 160,000 stolen goods valued at nearly $4.2 million.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u201cCalifornia will continue to lead more takedowns and make more arrests to keep our communities safe. It is through the coordinated efforts of our enforcement partners \u2013 police, sheriffs, and district attorneys \u2013 that the state can keep shutting the door on this unacceptable crime.\u201d<\/p>\n

Building upon the commitments made in his Real Public Safety Plan<\/a>, Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the California Highway Patrol (CHP) has made a record number of arrests and recovered millions in stolen goods so far this year.<\/p>\n

Since January 2024, the CHP\u2019s Organized Retail Crime Task Force has conducted 185 investigations, leading to 474 arrests and recovering more than 160,000 stolen goods valued at $4.2 million. That\u2019s nearly half of all the stolen goods the\u00a0task force recovered in 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Since the inception of this task force in 2019, the CHP has been involved in nearly 2,500 investigations, leading to the arrest of more than 2,500 suspects and the recovery of over 770,000 stolen goods valued at $42.3 million.<\/span><\/p>\n

California has\u00a0<\/span>invested<\/a>\u00a0$1.1 billion since 2019 to fight crime, help local governments hire more police, and improve public safety. In 2023, as part of California\u2019s\u00a0Real Public Safety Plan<\/a>, the Governor announced the\u00a0largest-ever<\/a>\u00a0investment to combat organized retail crime in state history, an annual\u00a0310%<\/a>\u00a0increase in proactive operations targeting organized retail crime, and\u00a0special<\/a>\u00a0operations\u00a0<\/a>across<\/a>\u00a0the state to fight crime and improve public safety.<\/p>\n
