{"id":176069,"date":"2024-04-30T09:42:36","date_gmt":"2024-04-30T16:42:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/?p=176069"},"modified":"2024-04-30T09:47:10","modified_gmt":"2024-04-30T16:47:10","slug":"california-wants-to-help-students-get-free-cash-for-college","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/?p=176069","title":{"rendered":"California Wants to Help Students get Free Cash for College"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sacramento, CA&#8230;With fewer high school students across the country filing for federal student aid so far this year, California is promoting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csac.ca.gov\/race-submit\">statewide campaign<\/a>\u00a0to mobilize local partners and engage high school seniors in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/csac-student-aid-graphic-400x250-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-176070\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/csac-student-aid-graphic-400x250-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/csac-student-aid-graphic-400x250-1.jpg 400w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/csac-student-aid-graphic-400x250-1-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/csac-student-aid-graphic-400x250-1-86x54.jpg 86w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/csac-student-aid-graphic-400x250-1-120x74.jpg 120w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/csac-student-aid-graphic-400x250-1-378x237.jpg 378w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From tuition to textbooks and other costs of attendance, financial aid is essential to making college more accessible and supporting student success.<\/p>\n<p>In light of delays and issues impacting the federal rollout of the 2024-25 FAFSA, Governor Gavin Newsom in March\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/a58.asmdc.org\/press-releases\/20240325-governor-signs-cervantes-bill-extend-application-deadline-state-financial\">signed<\/a>\u00a0an urgency measure by Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes (D-Riverside) to support students navigating the process by extending the application deadline for state financial aid programs from April 2 to May 2.<\/p>\n<p>Students bound for four-year institutions should\u00a0<strong>complete the FAFSA or CADAA by the May 2 priority deadline<\/strong>\u00a0to be eligible for various state financial aid programs, including the Cal Grant and Middle Class Scholarship. For community college students and foster youth, the deadline is September 3, 2024.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.csac.ca.gov\/how-apply\"><strong>APPLY FOR STUDENT AID HERE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Governor issued the following letter highlighting the state\u2019s outreach efforts to ensure students don\u2019t leave money on the table for college, including financial aid<a href=\"https:\/\/cash4college.csac.ca.gov\/\">\u00a0workshops scheduled<\/a>\u00a0across the state through May 2 for students, high school counselors and other\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.csac.ca.gov\/post\/cash-college-train-trainer-program\">partners<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A copy of the Governor\u2019s letter can be found\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/2024-25-Race-to-Submit-Cash-for-College.pdf\">here<\/a>\u00a0and the text is below:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>2024-25 Race to Submit: Cash for College<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>California is committed to helping students \u2013 our future leaders and innovators \u2013 pursue their college dreams and reach their full career potential. Financial aid helps hundreds of thousands of students in our state to achieve their higher education goals, and it\u2019s critical that everyone who could benefit has the opportunity to enroll. The first step in accessing financial aid is timely submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which unlocks federal, state and institutional aid.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This year, California passed an urgency measure to extend the application deadline for state financial aid programs from April 2 to May 2, meaning students have an additional month to submit their FAFSA by the state\u2019s priority deadline.
