\u201cCasey\u2019s Pledge\u201d is named to remember Casey Goodwin, a popular young advocate for healthy lifestyles free of alcohol and other drugs, who was killed in an automobile collision by an underage drinking driver in March 2003. Goodwin was traveling home from college in San Luis Obispo to celebrate her mother\u2019s birthday in Exeter, California. Casey\u2019s friends created the pledge to honor her remarkable commitment to reducing alcohol-related dangers.<\/p>\n
Students at both Bret Harte and Calaveras High Schools signed pledge cards in the shape of a star. The signed stars were attached to a banner that was on display at their school the week before prom. Each student who pledged also received a wristband to wear during the prom and at future events.<\/p>\n
