<\/a><\/p>\nI \u2014 as I was saying to my staff before you came in, since I\u2019ve been president, I\u2019ve flown over more of these wildfires \u2014 from Arizona to Idaho and Montana and all that whole crescent \u2014 than makes up the entire state of Maryland burned to the ground. <\/p>\n
And \u2014 and there\u2019s a lot that has to be s- \u2014 we\u2019re not going to be able to speak to all of it tonight, but \u2014 today, but we\u2019re going to talk a little bit about California and \u2014 and what\u2019s going on in Oregon as well.<\/p>\n
Nationwide, nearly 37,000 \u2014 37,000 wildfires burning over 7.3 million acres, more land than some of the states that we occupy. <\/p>\n
In California, they have three major wildfires destroying homes and displacing thousands of people \u2014 I mean, thousands of people. <\/p>\n
In Oregon, there\u2019s nearly 1.8 million acres burned. And it sounds like it\u2019s something good when you say it\u2019s a record, but it\u2019s a bad state record. It\u2019s real.<\/p>\n
And my administration is working closely around the clock to control these fires and protect our people, but it\u2019s always a matter of resources. And I look forward to this briefing from key members of my administration, who\u2019ve been working like hell on this, and two frontline governors.<\/p>\n
And, by the way, what I\u2019d like to do is I\u2019d like to make the \u2014 we\u2019ve raised the pay to $29 an hour. I want to make that permanent for the fire- \u2014 these firefighters. Anyway.<\/p>\n
