Grant, Susan B. Anthony, and even Charles Bolton (a.k.a. Other sightings have included a woman crying for her child and a child playing. Guests have also reported odd occurrences with fireplaces in their rooms, moved shoes, and a former owner\u00a0of the Hotel L\u00e9ger has even described seeing smoke and fire in the bar area multiple times when no fire was present. After her passing, Jeff and Mary Stai purchased Norene\u2019s property, which has since housed two of their businesses\u2014initially The Enchanted Workshop, then a tasting room for the winery they own,\u00a0<a title=\"Twisted Oak Winery\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gocalaveras.com\/business\/twisted-oak-tasting-room\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twisted Oak<\/a>.\u00a0 Mary Stai says that Norene\u2019s ghost has been there since they purchased the property. \u00a0\u00a0\u201cEvery now and again, we\u2019d have issues with her,\u201d said Mary. \u201cShe wouldn\u2019t like things we brought in the store.\u201d In one instance, Mary remembers a 5-pound stained glass butterfly nightlight flying off a shelf.\u00a0 She thought she would repair it, but when she placed it on the kitchen counter to fix it, it went flying off there too. She ultimately threw it out.\u00a0 Staff members who\u2019ve worked at both businesses have also reported strange encounters where they think they\u2019ve seen or heard something.\u00a0 Some of them, including Mary, have gotten into the habit of saying good morning to her and thanking her for letting them be in her house. Miss Hazel Fischer taught school in the small town of Avery for 48 years from 1916 to 1941 and never missed a day. If the little ones went too close to the entrance, the monster would capture and devour them. \u00a0This tall tale was intended to protect their children from falling to their death deep within the cavern. People have reported hearing faint laughter, smelling peculiar yet pleasant perfume, and soft creaking throughout the building. Check out the interesting \u201croom of curiosities\u201d in the back of the Carriage House if you can.
