Mokelumne Hill, CA…At around 8:30 am on January 15 our crew responded to a report of a single-vehicle roll-over on Mountain Ranch Road near the intersection with Rocky Road. Upon arrival our crew found a pick-up that had left the roadway and landed on its roof in the creek. The pick-up was being driven by 19-year-old TJ Wennhold, one of our firefighters on his way to his scheduled shift here at Central Calaveras Fire.<\/p>\n

TJ suffered fatal injuries in the crash and died at the scene.<\/p>\n

The CHP is investigating the cause, but it appears that he hit a patch of black ice on the roadway.
\nThis incident has deeply wounded us, and we appreciate the outpouring of support we are receiving from our community and beyond.<\/p>\n
