Sonora, CA…Leveraging recent precipitation, firefighters across the Stanislaus National Forest will continue reducing the number of piles on the forest through prescribed fire.<\/p>\n

STRAWBERRY, Calif (December 4, 2024) \u2013 Fire crews on the Stanislaus National Forests Summit Ranger remove piles near the town of Strawberry in an ongoing effort to reduce hazardous fuels in the area. On hand were firefighters from the Stanislaus Hotshots, Engine 312, Engine 314 and Helitak 517. The piles are a result of mastication work done in previous seasons as part of the Widlfire Crisis Strategy\/Social and Ecological Resilience Across the Landscape Project. Between Monday December 2 and Wednesday Dec<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

On the Mi-Wok\/Summit District crews will look to reduce the number of piles in the Cedar Ridge area, on the Groveland District work will focus around the areas east of Camp Tawonga and along Middle Fork of the Tuolumne River while large machine decks will be burned by Calaveras crews working Ganns Meadow, Black Springs and Dorrington.<\/p>\n

Piles are patrolled on an around the clock basis until declared completely out as crews monitor for 100 percent consumption.<\/p>\n

Smoke may be visible near the area of the burn piles, please do not report as a wildfire. The Stanislaus National Forest in conjunction with Tuolumne County Public Health has created a robust smoke ready website with resources and more information. Visit our smoke ready page.<\/p>\n
