Sonora, CA…Crews with the Stanislaus National Forest\u2019s Mi-Wok\/Summit Ranger District will begin burning high-visibility piles in the Cedar Ridge area. Crews will be in the area, Monday, April 21 prepping burn units with the intention of lighting piles on Tuesday, April 22.<\/p>\n

CEDAR RIDGE, Calif (March 19, 2025) \u2013 Fire crews with the Mi-Wok\/Summit Ranger District work to consume piles along Forest Service Road 3N50 west of the community of Cedar Ridge, California. Poorly constructed, mostly decomposed, the nearly five-year old piles gave firefighters a difficult day\u2019s work as they struggled to establish fire within in them. As of March 19, 2025 firefighters across the Stanislaus National Forest have accomplished more than 5,000 acres of pile burning.

“We were hoping to begin broadcast burning in the area but with it getting increasingly warm and dry out there, we moved out of prescription” explained Acting Forest Supervisor, Jim Junette. “With that, we’re pivoting our efforts to burning some of the high-visibility piles in the Cedar Ridge area that multiple residents have spoken with us about.”<\/p>\n

All burning is monitored and conducted in accordance with state and county air quality guidelines and closely coordinated with local county air quality control districts.<\/p>\n

Smoke may be visible from portions of Highway 108. This project is a planned prescribed fire. Please do not report as a wildland fire.<\/p>\n
