California continues to lead by example in addressing the nation\u2019s affordable housing crisis.\u201d<\/h4>\n<p><small>Governor Gavin Newsom<\/small><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"et_pb_row_inner et_pb_row_inner_3\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_column et_pb_column_4_4 et_pb_column_inner et_pb_column_inner_3 et-last-child\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_module et_pb_text et_pb_text_4 news-body-text  et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\">\n<p>The Excess Sites program is administered in partnership by\u00a0the California Department of General Services (DGS) and\u00a0the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). The program identifies state-owned land available and suitable for housing and creates a digital inventory of those properties through the<a href=\"https:\/\/experience.arcgis.com\/experience\/f9b1ccf48e864ac8af8014cbb89371b8\/\"><strong>\u00a0State Excess Sites \u2013 Affordable Housing Opportunities Map Viewer<\/strong><\/a>. The sites are awarded to developers via a long-term ground lease allowing for low-cost development of affordable housing. This community is being developed by Visionary Home Builders of California.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe State\u2019s Excess Sites program continues to transform neighborhoods across California by turning underutilized state property into affordable housing and revitalizing communities,\u201d\u00a0<strong>Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency Secretary Tomiquia Moss said.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cThis energy-efficient project will reduce the community\u2019s carbon footprint and breathe new life into Downtown Stockton with housing and services for families and seniors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving grown up in Stockton, I am honored to be a part of this transformation to provide safe and stable housing for members of the community who need it most,\u201d\u00a0<strong>said Government Operations Secretary Nick Maduros.\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cThis marks another step on California\u2019s journey toward addressing housing needs while staying committed to our sustainability goals.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Project details<\/h2>\n<p>The plans for La Passeggiata at 622 East Lindsey Street in Stockton include two buildings, five and six stories high, connected by a breezeway. The five-story building will have 39 one- and two-bedroom apartments, and the six-story building will have 55 two- and three-bedroom apartments. The units will have energy-efficient appliances, rooftop gardens, and will utilize solar energy for seniors and families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe modern, energy-efficient units at La Passeggiata will provide homes for dozens of local families who need an affordable place to live,\u201d\u00a0<strong>DGS Director Ana M. Lasso said.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cThis project harnesses the best of state, local and nonprofit collaboration to deliver much needed sustainable, affordable housing across the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks to the Governor\u2019s executive order, nearly an acre of land sitting unused in the heart of Stockton\u2014blocks from the Civic Center and waterfront\u2014will be transformed into critically needed affordable housing,\u201d\u00a0<strong>HCD Director Gustavo Velasquez said.\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cThrough this ongoing partnership, we are connecting residents in need of housing stability to jobs, transit, amenities, and opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>From state land to affordable housing<\/h2>\n<p>In 2019, Governor Gavin Newsom issued an<a href=\"https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=afffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55&amp;id=1e4f1ad406&amp;e=2477ee8551\"><strong>\u00a0Executive Order N-06-19<\/strong><\/a>, tasking HCD and DGS with tackling the state\u2019s affordable housing crisis by identifying underutilized state-owned land that could be converted into affordable housing, considering factors such as proximity to job centers, amenities, and public transit. The order has since been utilized to create hundreds of affordable homes on nearly 50 state-owned sites, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>248 new homes at<a href=\"https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=afffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55&amp;id=e9072bdb39&amp;e=2477ee8551\"><strong>\u00a0Sugar Pine Village<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0for families and workers in the Tahoe region<\/li>\n<li>58 new homes for seniors under construction with an additional 150 new homes\u00a0 starting construction within the year at<a href=\"https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=afffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55&amp;id=458b614461&amp;e=2477ee8551\"><strong>\u00a0Mulberry Gardens Senior Apartments<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Riverside<\/li>\n<li>75 new homes at 750 Golden Gate Avenue with an additional 92 new homes at 850 Turk Street in San Francisco<\/li>\n<li>58 new homes at<a href=\"https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=afffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55&amp;id=9d48b7805a&amp;e=2477ee8551\"><strong>\u00a0Sonrisa<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Sacramento<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>48 new homes at<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hcd.ca.gov\/about-hcd\/newsroom\/reedley-ribbon-cutting-highlights-progress-governor-newsoms-affordable-housing-initiatives-to-repurpose-excess-state-properties\"><strong>\u00a0Guardian Village<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Reedley<\/li>\n<li>241 new homes under construction at<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hcd.ca.gov\/about-hcd\/newsroom\/monarch-breaks-ground-sacramento\"><strong>\u00a0The Monarch<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Sacramento<\/li>\n<li>55 new homes under construction at<a href=\"https:\/\/prefablogic.com\/projects\/pacific-crest-commons\/\"><strong>\u00a0Pacific Crest Commons<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Truckee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stockton, CA&#8230;State leaders broke ground on a new affordable housing community in downtown Stockton.
