Murphys, CA…To kick off this year\u2019s season of First Fridays in the Park neighborhood concerts, the sponsoring Murphys Community Club is actually staging the June event on the second Friday of the month, June 10 to avoid a conflict with the graduation ceremony at Bret Harte High School. \u201cIt has become a tradition to move our June performance ahead seven days,\u201d states MCC president Suzanne Friedman. \u201cWith many of our families involved with Bret Harte we don\u2019t want to compete with the school\u2019s important year-end celebration.\u201d From June to September, First Friday in the Park will feature a performance by a local musical group playing in the iconic gazebo starting at 5:30 p.m. From 4 p.m., a special dinner will be available for purchase at $12.00 per person and a featured local wine will be on sale along with other beverages. Friends and neighbors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy a small town America gathering in the cool confines of Murphys Community Park.\t<\/p>\n

The June 10 program will feature Chains Required. Formed in 2007 by trombonist George Greenfield and friends, the band is composed of top-tier local musicians who really enjoy entertaining with tunes spanning from 1960 to the present. \u201cCentral to the band is our four-piece horn section with journeyman players, backed by a sizzling-hot rhythm section to lay down the beat. In front are two singers guaranteed to knock your socks off,\u201d says bass player Dan Parks.<\/p>\n

The Murphys Historic Hotel will cater the meal. The menu will consist of beef and cheese lasagna, green salad, garlic bread, corn on the cob, and watermelon. A vegetarian entre will be available.<\/p>\n

The other performers and caterers in the First Fridays series are:
\n\tJuly 1 – John Covert\u2019s Crystal Image Band \u2013 a variety dance and show\u00a0band that performs classic rock, country, blues, originals and more.\u00a0 The caterer will be Sierra Hills Market and Lila & Sage.<\/p>\n

\tAugust 5 – Free Fahlen – a no hassle classic rock cover band. Alchemy Caf\u00e9 & Market will cater the dinner.<\/p>\n

\tSeptember 2 – Plan B, a favorite local group that tailors its music to fit the audience with emphasis on classic rock hits from the \u201850\u2019s, \u201860\u2019s and \u201870\u2019s. The dinner will be prepared Pipn\u2019 Hot BBQ.<\/p>\n

There is no admission charge and ample free parking is available nearby. Donations to help maintain the park are always gratefully received.<\/p>\n
