Uncle is a sensitive boy who has been through more than his share in his young life. While many dogs bark and jump for attention in the shelter, Uncle sits quietly in his kennel, watching with soulful eyes that reveal both gentleness and caution. Loud noises and sudden movements can make him nervous, and he may seem aloof at first. But patience pays off with this big-hearted dog.

Once Uncle feels safe, his personality blossoms. He turns into a goofy, affectionate pup who jumps for hugs, leans in for pets, and takes treats with the gentlest mouth. Volunteers have seen him light up with joy when he trusts someone, showing that under his quiet reserve is a playful companion waiting to shine.

Uncle walks nicely on leash, checking in often with his handler, and enjoys his time outdoors. He is strong, so an experienced handler is recommended. He has reacted to barking dogs but is otherwise calm or mildly friendly toward others. With structure, reassurance, and continued training, Uncle will learn that the world is a safe place.

Uncle will thrive in a patient, loving home where he can continue to build confidence and enjoy the steady affection he craves. His loyal, goofy heart is ready to bond deeply with someone who gives him the chance.
To meet Uncle, contact: Calaveras County Animal Services, (209) 754-6509 or animal@calaverascounty.gov
Please use Uncle’s intake number (A059342) when making inquiries.

All dogs available for adoption at the Calaveras Animal Shelter are up to date on their routine vaccinations and will be microchipped.
