Approximately 120 fifth and sixth grade students from Calaveras County Schools put their math skills to the test. Kierian O&#8217;Donnell, a 5th grader from Hazel Fischer Elementary, took 2nd place in the Blitz, 1st place in the Huddle, and was part of the 1st place Bomb team.<\/p>\n<p>Students work in pairs to compete in the Huddle, part of the Calaveras County Math Mini Bowl.<br \/>\nNew to the competition was the addition of Google Chromebooks. Students had to think quickly and develop new, on-the-spot strategies for the Blitz, an individual test, and the Huddle, a pairs test. Tests were created on Google Forms where students were tested on a variety of math problems aligned to the New California Common Core Standards. The Bomb, a 5-person-team test, remained a written test.<\/p>\n<p>The online administration of tests proved to be a faster, more efficient option, reducing paper waste and increasing accuracy in the grading of tests.<\/p>\n<p>Math Mini Bowl results are listed below:<\/p>\n<p>5th Grade BLITZ  &#8211;
