The ban further extends these prohibitions to prevent appointees from using insider information to help others, including spouses, children, other family members, business partners, or others, profit from such information.<\/p>\n<div class=\"et_pb_module et_pb_text et_pb_text_3 quote  et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\">\n<h4 class=\"null\">\u201cPublic service should not be a get-rich-quick scheme. At a time when Trump\u2019s Washington is riddled with ethical failures and insider profiteering, California is drawing a bright line: If you serve the public as a political appointee, you serve the public \u2014 period. We\u2019re not going to tolerate this kind of corruption in California.\u201d<\/h4>\n<p><small>Governor Gavin Newsom<\/small><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"et_pb_module et_pb_text et_pb_text_4 news-body-text  et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\">\n<p>The order comes amid mounting reports suggesting that individuals in the federal government with access to sensitive government information are cashing in, placing well-timed bets ahead of major Trump administration actions and walking away with profits. Recent reporting has raised serious questions about trades placed just before key federal decisions \u2014 from military operations to tariff moves \u2014 fueling concerns that insiders in President Donald Trump\u2019s orbit are exploiting confidential information for their own personal gain or to help others profit off their knowledge.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In one example, an individual precisely predicted multiple events related to the United States\u2019 military intervention in Venezuela, war with Iran, and military operations targeting drug cartels \u2014 an extremely unlikely outcome for someone without insider knowledge \u2014 and pocketed tens of thousands of dollars in profit in the process.<\/li>\n<li>In another example,<a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/future-society\/anonymous-polymarket-trump-iran\">\u00a0six suspected insiders<\/a>\u00a0made $1.2 million betting on a U.S. strike against Iran, from accounts that had been funded only days before the strike, specifically bought for the day of the strike, and bet only hours before.<\/li>\n<li>Another person\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2026\/03\/24\/politics\/iran-war-bets-prediction-markets\">betting has a 93% win rate<\/a>\u00a0for bets related to Iran and Israel \u2013 making nearly $1 million since 2024.<\/li>\n<li>An unidentified trader\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/world\/americas\/maduro-polymarket-bet-a2e5d100?gaa_at=eafs&amp;gaa_n=AWEtsqcgsaw-a-zZr_Xllf_4uXRmmdO-qbfJNEd2BCz-O6acDAt67uaDWNuA8vjvbU4%3D&amp;gaa_ts=6966cc6e&amp;gaa_sig=Hs-xge6ZGLV9MzTQX5VcVrrma3bi1yf21nvmWvaAVujpMuQsy07LjB5Jxo7S03gzMI-5RgmPwjcaIx2pB9PTLw%3D%3D\">bet tens of thousands of dollars just hours before the U.S. Military captured Venezuela\u2019s president,<\/a>\u00a0Nicol\u00e1s Maduro, making $410,000 on the bet and creating speculation that it came from a government official.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>California already has some of the strongest ethics laws in the nation, including strict conflict-of-interest rules and prohibitions on using public office for private gain.
