In the fourth quarter of 2025, real GDP increased 0.5 percent.<\/p>\n<div class=\"center_div\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bea.gov\/system\/files\/gdp1q26-adv-chart-01.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"align-center\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bea.gov\/system\/files\/gdp1q26-adv-chart-01.png\" alt=\"Real GDP, Percent Change From Preceding Quarter\" width=\"1049\" height=\"387\" data-entity-type=\"file\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apps.bea.gov\/iTable\/?reqid=19&amp;step=2&amp;isuri=1&amp;categories=survey#eyJhcHBpZCI6MTksInN0ZXBzIjpbMSwyLDNdLCJkYXRhIjpbWyJjYXRlZ29yaWVzIiwiU3VydmV5Il0sWyJOSVBBX1RhYmxlX0xpc3QiLCIzMiJdXX0=\">contributors to the increase in real GDP<\/a>\u00a0in the first quarter were investment, exports, consumer spending, and government spending. Imports, which are a subtraction in the calculation of GDP, also increased. Imports turned up.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apps.bea.gov\/iTable\/?reqid=19&amp;step=2&amp;isuri=1&amp;categories=survey&amp;_gl=1*vvt0u8*_ga*MTQ3OTgwNDE4LjE2NzY5OTYyNTM.*_ga_J4698JNNFT*MTc0NjQ3NDIyMS4xMjc2LjEuMTc0NjQ3NDYxNC40OS4wLjA.#eyJhcHBpZCI6MTksInN0ZXBzIjpbMSwyLDNdLCJkYXRhIjpbWyJjYXRlZ29yaWVzIiwiU3VydmV5Il0sWyJOSVBBX1RhYmxlX0xpc3QiLCIyNiJdXX0=\"><strong>Real final sales to private domestic purchasers<\/strong>, the sum of consumer spending and gross private fixed investment, increased 2.5 percent<\/a>\u00a0in the first quarter, compared with an increase of 1.8 percent in the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apps.bea.gov\/iTable\/?reqid=19&amp;step=2&amp;isuri=1&amp;categories=survey#eyJhcHBpZCI6MTksInN0ZXBzIjpbMSwyLDNdLCJkYXRhIjpbWyJjYXRlZ29yaWVzIiwiU3VydmV5Il0sWyJOSVBBX1RhYmxlX0xpc3QiLCIzOCJdXX0=\"><strong>price index for gross domestic purchases<\/strong>\u00a0increased 3.6 percent<\/a>\u00a0in the first quarter, compared with an increase of 3.7 percent in the fourth quarter.
