<\/a><\/p>\nK-9 Chiro is a 1-year-10-month-old Belgian Malinois originating from the Slovak Republic. Deputy Rhodes and Chiro completed an intensive 320-hour, two-month handler course covering K-9 legal updates, safety procedures, first aid, tactical and working obedience, tracking, search techniques, officer protection, suspect control, call-off\/call-out protocols, report writing, and scenario-based field training. Prior to graduation, the team met all proficiency standards established by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).<\/p>\n
In addition to their patrol and tracking certification, Deputy Rhodes and K-9 Chiro are also certified in narcotics detection, further enhancing their operational capability in support of enforcement efforts throughout Calaveras County.<\/p>\n
Chiro also brings prior Schutzhund training experience, a rigorous European working-dog program emphasizing tracking, obedience, and protection work. The team is now fully certified to support patrol operations, tracking, search and rescue, suspect apprehension, narcotics detection, and other critical law enforcement functions throughout Calaveras County.<\/p>\n
The Sheriff\u2019s Office extends its appreciation to the Friends of the Calaveras Sheriff\u2019s Office for their continued support in helping make this addition possible.<\/p>\n
Sheriff Rachelle Whiting commended the team\u2019s dedication and professionalism throughout training and expressed confidence that Deputy Rhodes and K-9 Chiro will be a strong asset to public safety operations.<\/p>\n
