Sacramento, CA….(From the Governor’s Office.\u00a0 CA is getting a huge boost from the AI Boom)…For years, politicians in Texas and Florida have built an entire political brand around attacking California. But when it comes to economic performance, the results keep telling a different story \u2014 confirming what we have known in California for years: California\u2019s economy has no peers.<\/span><\/p>\n

A new analysis using U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis data shows California posted one of the nation\u2019s strongest quarterly growth results, far outpacing Texas and Florida, while reinforcing its position as the world\u2019s fourth-largest economy and America\u2019s economic engine. California\u2019s economy grew at a\u00a03.7% annualized pace in the first quarter of 2026<\/b>\u00a0\u2014 its best quarterly growth ranking since 2013 and one of the fastest growth rates in the nation. Meanwhile, Texas grew just\u00a00.9%<\/b>\u00a0and Florida\u00a01.6%<\/b>\u00a0during the same period.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

For years, we\u2019ve heard the same fairytale \u2014 California\u2019s economic model doesn\u2019t work, and Texas or Florida are the future. The facts say otherwise. California is the world\u2019s fourth-largest economy, and we\u2019re growing faster because we choose to invest in innovation, talent, entrepreneurship, and working people. While Republican-led states ask working families to shoulder more of the tax burden, California continues to find ways to cut costs for families and provide more support for everyone to succeed.<\/span><\/p>\n

California\u2019s competitors like to market themselves as low-tax success stories, but for millions of working Americans, the reality is very different. In 16 states \u2014 including Texas and Florida \u2014 the lowest-income residents\u00a0pay a larger share of their income in total state and local taxes<\/u><\/b><\/a>\u00a0than California\u2019s wealthiest 1%.<\/p>\n

World-leading economy<\/h2>\n
Since Governor Newsom took office, California\u2019s annual GDP has grown by more than\u00a0$1.18 trillion<\/b>, reaching\u00a0$4.25 trillion in 2025<\/b>. First-quarter 2026 economic output reached an annualized\u00a0$4.4 trillion<\/b>, following annual GDP gains exceeding $200 billion in each of the previous two years.<\/div>\n

As the world\u2019s fourth largest economy, California continues to lead the nation where it matters most \u2014 creating new businesses, attracting venture capital, driving technological innovation, expanding advanced manufacturing, growing high-tech industries, and producing more than any other state. In fact, The Golden State continues to be:\u00a0#1 state for new business starts<\/u><\/b><\/a>,\u00a0#1 state for manufacturing<\/u><\/b><\/a>,\u00a0#1 state for venture capital funding<\/u><\/b><\/a>,\u00a0#1 state for high-tech business<\/u><\/b><\/a>,\u00a0#1 state for agriculture\u00a0<\/u><\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

California also remains home to\u00a0more businesses than Texas or Florida<\/b>\u00a0and continues to be America\u2019s start up capital \u2014 with more than\u00a04.3 million small businesses<\/b>\u00a0employing\u00a07.6 million Californians<\/b>.<\/p>\n

When it comes to job creation during the first quarter, California added about\u00a0131,500 jobs<\/b>\u00a0over the previous year \u2014 the largest increase of any state. California\u2019s workforce posted a\u00a04.2% productivity increase<\/b>\u00a0in 2025, making the Golden State the single largest contributor to national productivity growth and accounting for roughly\u00a014% of total U.S. economic output<\/b>.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo-called rivals\u201d<\/h2>\n
While California delivered its best quarterly growth ranking in 13 years, Texas tied for 36th nationally with 0.9% growth and Florida ranked 23rd at 1.6%. California also led the nation\u2019s four largest state economies in fourth-quarter 2025 dollar growth, adding $44.5 billion in economic output \u2014 more than New York, Texas, or Florida.\n<\/div>\n

California\u2019s recipe for success<\/h2>\n
During Governor Newsom\u2019s leadership, California has grown into a world-leading economy expanding from $3 trillion to a $4.25 trillion GDP, attracting nearly two-thirds of all U.S. venture capital investment,\u00a0building historic budget reserves<\/u><\/b><\/a>\u00a0\u2014 all while making record investments in Californians.
