<\/a><\/p>\nThe victim initially told Calaveras County Sheriff’s Deputies that the stabbing occurred in the 1200 block of South Main Street. Officers responded to the area but were unable to locate a crime scene or evidence that the stabbing had occurred there. The victim’s injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening, and he was transferred to San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp for additional treatment.<\/p>\n
Over the following days, officers continued investigating the incident. Information obtained through Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) technology and privately owned video surveillance helped officers develop a timeline involving a vehicle and person associated with the incident. The investigation indicated the stabbing did not occur on South Main Street as initially reported.<\/p>\n
On September 25, officers located witnesses who provided information about the events leading up to the stabbing and identified a residence in the 1700 block of Depot Road as the crime scene.\u00a0 Officers recovered a knife believed to have been used in the stabbing, along with additional evidence.<\/p>\n
Based on witness statements and evidence, officers identified the victim’s girlfriend, Kayla Leah Skye Overby, 28, of Angels Camp, as a person of interest. Officers also determined that a vehicle Overby had been driving was stolen from the location where the stabbing occurred.<\/p>\n
Officers contacted the victim with the new information. The victim explained that he had initially been hesitant to provide complete information because of his relationship with Overby. He then confirmed that Overby had stabbed him following a disturbance at their residence. The victim also confirmed that Overby drove him to Mark Twain Medical Center following the stabbing and then left the area with the couple’s minor child.<\/p>\n
Officers learned that Overby had traveled to Sacramento County, where she had family, and identified a possible location in the 7500 block of 24th Street in Sacramento. Angels Camp Police requested assistance from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies located the stolen vehicle at the 24th Street location and learned that Overby may have been with a friend in the 2400 block of Meadowview Road.<\/p>\n
Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Meadowview Road, located Overby, and contacted her by telephone. Overby surrendered without incident.The stolen vehicle was recovered and returned to its registered owner in Angels Camp.<\/p>\n
Overby voluntarily returned to Angels Camp with officers for an interview. Following the interview, she was arrested and booked without incident for:
\nFelony assault with a deadly weapon
\nFelony child endangerment
\nFelony vehicle theft
\nFelony domestic violence<\/p>\n
The minor child was released to the custody of Calaveras County Child Protective Services.<\/p>\n
The victim is recovering from his injuries. There are no outstanding suspects and no known ongoing threat to the community. The Angels Camp Police Department thanks the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.<\/p>\n
