Angels Camp, CA…It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the sudden passing of former local artisan resident Dale Allan Huey, 70, on September 18th, 2026.

Born in North Hollywood before moving to the Motherlode to raise his family, Dale was always looking for opportunities to serve his community, whether it as a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol, a supporter of the Calaveras County Farm Bureau, Scouts, Kindness Week, or as a chaperone and handyman at his children’s schools, where he built many grad night sets. He lived in Angels Camp for 25 years before moving to Woodland, CA.

Dale was enjoying retired life, promoting his art, BrainBox Studio and spending time with family. For a quiet man, he was quick to speak of his children with pride. He filled every one of his days with the joy of creation – his passion for drawing and fine art spans back decades, while also making room for other disciplines like woodcarving, gardening, and woodworking projects. Frequent Disney trips kept his imagination alive. He loved seeing and experimenting with new media. His love of music, especially Jimmy Buffett, was well known.

Dale had a long career in the auto industry. He spread his youthful passion for classic cars through tours and community classes as a docent at the California Automobile Museum, and as a “car caricature” artist at local shows.

Dale is survived by his loving wife and partner of 41 years, Leah (Crissy); his children Kyle (Melissa Cruz), Kaylee (Brandon Roque), and Timothy Welch; his sisters, Sandra (Bill) Wood and Valerie (Gary) Conrado. He is also survived by his 3 grand dogs,16 niblings, as well as 31 great niblings, and countless pieces of his art that adorn homes across the country.

Dale’s interment will take place at the Angels Camp Catholic Cemetery in a private service with family and close friends.

We ask for privacy and compassion during this time; to honor his legacy, donations in his name may be made to the California Automobile Museum, 2200 Front St., Sacramento, CA 95818 https://www.calautomuseum.org/support
