The chance of a teen being involved in a collision is at a lifetime high within the<br \/>\nfirst two years of driving. These odds are substantially reduced when high-risk driving behaviors<br \/>\nare eliminated. The two-hour Start Smart class can help eliminate these behaviors by providing<br \/>\nteens driver education, developed specifically to address high risk driving behaviors observed<br \/>\nevery day by California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/CHP-Banner-Logo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/CHP-Banner-Logo.jpg\" alt=\"CHP-Banner-Logo\" width=\"450\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8680\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/CHP-Banner-Logo.jpg 450w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/CHP-Banner-Logo-300x133.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Designed for newly licensed teen drivers and their parents, the CHP\u2019s Start Smart program is a<br \/>\ntwo hour driver safety education class that is conducted throughout the state. The free program<br \/>\nwas revised by the CHP in 2014 and incorporates innovative techniques to capture the attention<br \/>\nof teens and parents, providing a lasting experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis course is designed to encourage safe driving behaviors early on,\u201d CHP Commissioner Joe<br \/>\nFarrow said. \u201cThe Start Smart curriculum reinforces that while driving is a great privilege, it<br \/>\ncomes with a tremendous amount of responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Start Smart curriculum includes information on collision statistics, teen driver and passenger<br \/>\nbehaviors, Graduated Driver License (GDL) law, cultural changes in today\u2019s society, and the<br \/>\nneed for stronger parental involvement in a teen\u2019s driving experience. During the course, officers<br \/>\nand speakers illustrate the critical responsibilities of safe driving and collision avoidance<br \/>\ntechniques.
