{"id":31517,"date":"2017-01-11T15:46:05","date_gmt":"2017-01-11T23:46:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/69.46.6.243\/?p=31517"},"modified":"2017-01-11T15:46:05","modified_gmt":"2017-01-11T23:46:05","slug":"runner-responds-to-governor-browns-january-budget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/?p=31517","title":{"rendered":"Runner Responds To Governor Brown&#8217;s January Budget"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sacramento, CA&#8230;Board of Equalization Member George Runner today issued the following statement in response to Governor Jerry Brown&#8217;s 2017-18 January budget proposal:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/smallrunner.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/smallrunner.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25219\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The governor&#8217;s continued call for fiscal restraint makes sense. The state is still vulnerable to the boom-and-bust dangers of the past, especially since California voters chose to extend tax increases on high-income earners.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A real threat to Governor Brown&#8217;s desired legacy of fiscal conservatism will be legislative Democrats who wish to spend more money on government programs, now that they command a super-majority in both houses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s why it&#8217;s disappointing to see Brown use his final years as governor to call for a gas tax hike, especially at a time when fuel prices are on the rise.
