The ACLU and other legal organizations filed a lawsuit on behalf of individuals who were subject to the ban.  The lead plaintiffs have been detained by the U.S. government and threatened with deportation even though they have valid visas to enter the United States. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/ACLU.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/ACLU.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"266\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32776\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/ACLU.jpg 640w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/ACLU-300x125.jpg 300w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/ACLU-570x237.jpg 570w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/ACLU-150x62.jpg 150w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/ACLU-500x208.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lee Gelernt, deputy director of the ACLU\u2019s Immigrants\u2019 Rights Project who argued the case, said: <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis ruling preserves the status quo and ensures that people who have been granted permission to be in this country are not illegally removed off U.S. soil.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero, had this reaction to the ruling:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClearly the judge understood the possibility for irreparable harm to hundreds of immigrants and lawful visitors to this country. Our courts today worked as they should as bulwarks against government abuse or unconstitutional policies and orders.
